KUALA LUMPUR: Yayasan Usahawan Malaysia (MyPreneurship), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that thrives on the frontier of gathering, creating and developing sustainable entrepreneurs, today announced the inaugural SME & Entrepreneurship Business Award that will take place on 10th January 2017.
This award was initiated to empower entrepreneurs to brand themselves across the value chain and enhance their capability in line with the government’s vision to make 2017 as the Startup and SME Promotion year.
The SME sector, said MyPreneurship founder Nitesh Malani comprises 97% of companies registered in Malaysia and contributes to 36 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“They are currently the driver of the economy and further growth for the SME industry would translate to stronger engine of growth for the country,” he said adding that not only the award aims to recognise the SMEs for their credentials, it also aims to develop the entrepreneur community and propel them toward greater heights.
Nitesh further added that while the SME & Entrepreneurship Business Award aims to be a much coveted annual recognition event for entrepreneurs, MyPreneurship has also initiated Rootz, an extension of the annual award. It encapsulatee the vision of the SME & Entrepreneurship Business Award for entrepreneurs to connect and collaborate.
“Sustainability is the key differentiator of the SME & Entrepreneurship Business Award. We will be incorporating the concept of public-private-social enterprise entrepreneurship and the programmes in the pipeline include business exchange sessions, forums and talks that would provide the entrepreneur community to converge and explore potentials and leverage on the strength and competencies of one another,” he said.
The government, said Nitesh, has provide a good infrastructure for the advancement of SMEs by providing certain advantages such as tax exemptions and funding schemes to invigorate startups under the SME Masterplan. “What MyPreneurship can do now is to reach out to the greater entrepreneur ecosystem and start charting the growth for this sector”.
