The Lesson that Changed his Expectations

“I learned that it takes a long time to grow a business, but it takes an even longer time to make money from a business,” said AIM Solutions Group Berhad’s Group Managing Director, Mohd Najib bin Haji Mohd Noor.

He shared that when he first started, he struggled to find partners who truly matched the nature of his business. Over time, that experience trained him to manage expectations with more patience and realism, a mindset many founders in entrepreneur malaysia will relate to.

What He Learned Early:

  • Business takes time to build
  • Profit usually comes later than expected
  • The wrong partner can slow you down
  • Patience is not “slow”, it is staying consistent

Early Exposure to Entrepreneurship

Mohd Najib said he was introduced to entrepreneurship at 14 after joining Program Pembangunan Usahawan Muda, which sparked his interest in business early.

He also described himself as someone who blends different approaches to entrepreneurship, including technology and social impact, while continuing to learn from mistakes and course-correct along the way.

Roles in AIM and Koop Sahabat

Alongside his corporate role, Mohd Najib is also:

  • Chairman of Koperasi Sahabat Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia Berhad (Koop Sahabat)
  • Deputy Chairman of Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM)

AIM is a major name in Malaysia’s micro-entrepreneur ecosystem and is described as an agency under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP).
Koop Sahabat, meanwhile, states it was officially established on 30 August 2012, linked to a strategic planning process involving AIM stakeholders.

What is a Microenterprise in Malaysia?

SME Corp defines microenterprises as businesses with sales turnover under RM300,000 OR fewer than 5 full-time employees.

This is the group many people in sme malaysia and micro-business circles fall into, especially those still building stable income.

What AIM Solutions Group focuses on

Mohd Najib explained that AIM Solutions Group supports aspiring micro-entrepreneurs through digital platforms and mobile applications, including an e-commerce platform that helps them sell and build networks across Malaysia.

Focus of AIM Solutions Group:

  • E-commerce platform for aspiring micro-entrepreneurs
  • A place to promote, advertise, and sell products/services
  • Support to build business networking malaysia links across a wider business chain

This direction also fits Malaysia’s national push towards Industry 4.0 adoption. MITI notes that Industry4WRD (National Policy on Industry 4.0) was launched on 31 October 2018 to drive digital transformation in manufacturing and related services sectors.

How Digital Platforms Help Micro-Entrepreneurs

  • Digital tools help them sell beyond their immediate circle
  • Online platforms help them stay visible and consistent
  • Mobile access matters because many operate using phones first
All of this supports longer-term business growth when done consistently.

Work Habits and the Upcoming Next Three Years

Mohd Najib also shared how he tries to manage work-life balance. He prefers quality over quantity, aiming to be fully present at home and fully focused at work.

He emphasised the basics for anyone building up in small business malaysia:

  • Start with a clear objective
  • Build a solid business plan
  • Surround yourself with like-minded people as you form the team

Looking ahead, he said AIM Solutions Group aims to become a market leader in the IR 4.0 ecosystem within three years, supported by the right infrastructure and strategy.
