Shoppr, the Tinder of fashion

Ever had trouble looking for the perfect party dress or wondered how to style your culottes? Shoppr is an app that helps girls with just that.

Known to be the Tinder of Fashion, Shoppr was launched in May 2015. It is a shopping app developed locally and has a target market consisting of tech-savvy females aged between 18 and 32. This online store aggregator app provides users with item recommendations based on their preferences keyed into the app.

It works like the dating app Tinder, where you can swipe an item to the left if you like it or swipe to the right if you don’t. The more you swipe, the better the item and style recommendations you get.

In addition, users can search and buy items directly via the app. They aggregate products from e-commerce fashion stores that ship to — or are already in — Malaysia.  This saves time as they are redirected to the respective brands’ stores within the app itself without having to open multiple tabs on your screen.

Shopping addicts can also rejoice as you can get notifications of any discounts that are released by their favourite brands, through the app.

Besides getting item recommendations, the app provides girls with style tips, the latest fashion updates from over 1,000 fashion brands, fashion news and latest celebrity looks and fashion as well.

The app has become a huge hit amongst many fashionistas in the country, especially due to its user friendly appeal and accessibility.

Shoppr originally started off with Sylvia Yin, who is now the Chief Operating Officer and Kendrick Wong, who is now the Chief Executive Officer. They were later joined by Nikolai Prettner who is now the Chief UI/ UX designer for the company.

This year, they have nearly 60 ambassadors and 25 student ambassadors working with them to grow the app.

They have since gained popularity from the masses with over 6,000 posts with the hashtag #shopprstyle on social media accounts such as Instagram.

Shoppr’s popularity and innovation has won them a handful of startup competitions such as AngelHack Kuala Lumpur and D3 Hackathon, Facebook PARSE, Best App for Commercialisation and the MYDD AT&T Hackathon.

Although there is a similar app in Europe called Mallzee, there is currently no other app like Shoppr in Southeast Asia.
