HuangRouShang provides fresh, high-quality pork & pork frozen foods in the market

Having been involved in the pork-butcher business for about 2 years, but with over 12 years of accumulated experience and knowledge in the field of butchery Oon Wei Jie does not wait that long to determine his next step after completing the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination.

Albeit his young age, the founder of HuangRouShang brand strives to position his company to be the well-known provider of fresh and high-quality pork and pork related products in the market.

In a recent interview with Entrepreneur Insight, Wei Jie said his company helps local pork butchers in the market to solve their problem of low demanding pork parts by processing into one of a kind and tasty pork related frozen foods.

“I started helping my father who was an experience third-generation butcher since I was eight years old and thanks to my mom, who is teaching the business subject at Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan Chung Ling in Butterworth, Penang. Thanks to both of their help I would instinctively have the necessary resources from each of them both knowledge and experience wise to follow in the dreams of entrepreneurship.

“My first product when I embarked on my entrepreneur journey was a shabu-shabu. Since my friends and I love to eat shabu-shabu at that time, we found that no brand could guarantee their shabu-shabu was made using 100% local pork with the correct cuts of meat.

“Therefore, I took the challenge to start making high-quality shabu-shabu for the market through the HuangRouShang brand. I guarantee that my products are made of 100 % local pork and with the correct cuts of meat, thus making it a high-quality food product that is healthy for our customer to consume.” he said.

As an entrepreneur, Wei Jie was not spared from mistakes. However, he chose not to be swayed by the challenges, instead using them as a stepping stone to elevate higher.

“My biggest mistake was I used to make hasty decisions. Previously, I made a mistake by changing the target customer in my Shopee shop, from retail (B2C) to wholesale business customers(B2B). This caused the company to lose a lot of orders in two weeks because many retail customers could not afford to pay for the amount which would entitle them to free shipping. Thus, they opted to buy from other brands.

“From there, I learned that it is crucial for business owners to make sound decisions instead of hasty ones. The proper way to do it is to plan it out first and engage in deep discussion with our business partner before implementing it.” said Wei Jie.

The 100 Most Influential Young Entrepreneurs 2022 recipient said in three years, he plans to grow his business to all states in west Malaysia.

“I want the Chinese community within the larger metropolitan areas in Malaysia to recognise my products and the HuangRouShang brand with high praises and well feedback. I know it would not be an easy job, but I believe that if I want to achieve the dream, I must make more improvements in terms of marketing and branding aspects.

“I have a long journey to go and I hope my company would be able to achieve our mission, which is to be able to supply our products across the country in 10 years to come. I am optimistic that this mission is accomplishable, given that I have already penetrated the northwest side of west Malaysia within two years of my company’s establishment,” he added.
