Menyediakan Penyelesaian Perlindungan Kebakaran Yang Dipercayai

For Devin Teoh, safety is never an option—it is a responsibility. This belief became the driving force behind his journey into the fire protection industry. Rather than viewing fire safety as simply a business opportunity, he saw it as a commitment to protecting lives, safeguarding assets, and creating safer environments through professional standards and disciplined execution.

Building a Business Through Structure and Accountability

When Devin founded Sapphire Engineering & Protection Sdn Bhd in 2018, he entered the industry with ambition and determination. Like many entrepreneurs, his early journey came with valuable lessons. One of the most significant was learning that trust alone is not enough to build a sustainable business. Experiences involving overly lenient decision-making taught him the importance of accountability, structure, and professionalism in every aspect of operations.

These lessons shaped his leadership philosophy and transformed the way the company was built. From project execution to internal systems and decision-making processes, every element of the business was designed around consistency, discipline, and long-term sustainability.

Over the years, Devin continued refining his approach, recognizing that entrepreneurship is a continuous process of learning and improvement. Every challenge became an opportunity to strengthen operational standards, improve leadership capabilities, and build a stronger organization.

Devin Teoh is the founder of Sapphire Engineering & Protection Sdn Bhd, a Penang-based fire protection contractor established in 2018. Specializing in comprehensive firefighting solutions for factories, shopping malls, data centres, and high-rise buildings, Devin’s company is dedicated to safety and innovation. Sapphire Engineering & Protection offers end-to-end services including system design, material supply, installation, and maintenance in accordance with NFPA and Malaysian Standards.

The Critical Role of Fire Safety

Fire safety is not an optional feature—it is a critical necessity for modern industrial and commercial infrastructure. Devin’s business addresses this essential need by providing compliant, reliable, and updated fire protection solutions that safeguard lives, assets, and business continuity. Sapphire Engineering & Protection plays a vital role in enhancing national fire resilience by ensuring buildings are designed and equipped to respond effectively during emergencies.

Lessons from Early Entrepreneurial Mistakes

Devin’s biggest early mistake was being too soft-hearted and overly trusting of others. While intention and goodwill are important, he learned that proper procedures must never be compromised—even for relatives or friends. Business must operate with discipline, professionalism, and structure.

Vision for Growth and Expansion

In the next three years, Devin aims to expand into specialized industries such as oil & gas, aerospace, and advanced data centres, while extending operations beyond the Northern region into Kuala Lumpur and Johor. This growth will rely on strategic partnerships and strong professional networks, as success is never a one-man show. Collaboration and connection will be key drivers of sustainable growth.

Mentorship and Inspiration

Devin credits his mentorship to every individual he has met throughout his business journey, each providing valuable lessons in experience, business strategy, and life philosophy. His inspiration comes from the encouragement of friends and colleagues, and a deep personal desire to constantly break through his own limitations. Entrepreneurship offers him a platform for self-growth and proving what is possible.

Expectations vs. Reality in Entrepreneurship

Initially, Devin expected running a business to be about technical execution and service delivery. However, he discovered that leadership, human management, financial discipline, and resilience play a far larger role. Though challenging, the journey has been equally rewarding.

Advice for Budding Entrepreneurs

Devin advises entrepreneurs not to confuse activity with productivity. Answering 100 emails is activity; closing one major deal is productivity. He encourages prioritizing impact and results over mere motion, asking oneself: “Is what I am doing right now moving the needle, or am I just staying busy to avoid the hard work?”

Maintaining Work-Life Balance

To maintain balance, Devin strives to complete tasks within the same day to avoid unnecessary delays and mental carry-over. He reserves weekends primarily for family, allowing him to recharge and stay grounded. Discipline in time management ensures both business and personal life receive the attention they deserve.
