Ahllextz Lim has been exposed to the agricultural sector since a tender age, thanks to his father, who runs a business that manufactures enzyme products. The early exposure had a significant impact on him, and he became passionate about agricultural science and technology, always intrigued by the possibility of improving input and research in the sector.
Born and raised in Penang, Ahllextz holds a bachelor degree from Deakin University in Australia, majoring in Marketing and Human Resource Management. The Moulinson Biotech chief technology officer cum founder said he started working in his father’s company after graduating from university.
“My father’s agricultural input business began with the production of enzyme products. The Malaysian market unfortunately was not ready for fermented biological products at that time, and because of this, the business did not do well.
“Thankfully, we were able to tap into the Thai market and assist our customers to develop enzyme (Enzymes) products for fisheries, agriculture, and animal feed. Later, we continued to penetrate the horticultural market and further developed our business in the processing of palm solids, which includes palm oil mill wastewater and oil palm empty fruit bunch fiber. By doing this, we turned a large amount of oil palm waste into organic fertilizer for sale in 2006.
“However, in 2016, I received an inquiry from a German businessman for the supply of one million tons of compost. While searching for possible sources to fulfill the order, I realized that the quality of our product did not meet the customer’s requirements. Subsequently, I also received an order from an Arabian businessman requesting at least 20,000 tons of compost for desert greening projects.
“My determination to explore greater potentials in agricultural production technologies was greatly inspired by the two opportunities I had encountered. So, in 2019, I decided to restructure my existing company, purchased the shares of other shareholders and formally established Moulinson Biotech.

Moulinson Biotech is more than just a fertilizer processing company. We are an innovative organization that is changing agricultural technology as we know it, with the goal of developing a sustainable agriculture procedure that is high in efficiency and stability while also ensuring the safety for farmers, consumers, and agricultural product, consumers. In other words, it’s a win-win situation for everyone involved,” he told Entrepreneur Insight in a recent interview.
The 100 Most Influential Young Entrepreneurs (100 MIYE) 2022 recipient continued that with the improvement of technology and equipment, the company has now mastered the production process of stable and fast composting.
“The days-to-compost has decreased from 90 to 150 days down to a mere 7. Not only that, the quality and efficacy of the compost is much more stable – all at an affordable price point.
“Besides the on-going drive to promote the benefits of composting and the increasing production, we will also implement a new plan in which 69 palm oil refineries across the country will be selected to work together to set up compost production sites on their premises to convert wastewater and waste from palm oil refining, such as empty fruit bunch fiber (EFB), palm husk (PKS), palm oil mill effluent (POME) and palm kernel cake (PKC), into high value-added compost.
“Not only will this reduce the environmental impact of palm oil refining, but it will also help refineries in utilizing agricultural wastewater to create compost. This self-supply of compost can reduce costs and help the refinery achieve a win-win situation when they can sell the extra production to small gardeners nearby.
“Therefore, as part of the plan, we also aim to increase its fertilizer production. The goal is to increase production from 250 tons per month to 1,000 tons per month by next March.
“We also will be seeing an increase in sales from RM1.9 million to RM24 million between 2023 and 2024. Gradually, we will enter the European and American markets to become the largest compost producer and exporter in Asia Pacific,” he added.
