Entrepreneurs represent their businesses in every way. As much we would like to be judged by our intelligence and experience, we are also evaluated by our attire and style.

And so, we would like to list some of the top Malaysian designers that have carved their names in the world, so you can get your hands on their captivating work. They all have stores here in Malaysia so head up to their gallery to check out their design and the local fashion scene.

Being bred in a multiethnic country, these home-grown talents have their diverse approaches towards fashion and distinct fashion styles with the multicultural influences shaping their designs. And many have showcased their work in fashion capitals – New York, London, Milan and Paris – and their designs have been worn by personalities, celebrities, elites and luminaries.

In the industry for more than 20 years, Bernard Chandran earns the title of Malaysia’s King of Fashion.

Returning home from Paris upon graduating, he aspired to start his own fashion line and “to be the Chanel of Malaysia”.

With a mixed parentage background of Indian and Chinese, and growing up in Malaysia, he was exposed to rich cultures. Thus, you can see his design is a mix of Asian cultures, blend of daring and yet, stylish.

Even Lady Gaga has donned one of Chandran’s designs which she wore a for her interview with Jay Leno

The fashion designer has expanded massively with stores in Malaysia and France.

She’s deemed as an influential style icon and on par with Jimmy Choo and Bernard Chandran as successful fashion designers in Malaysia.

The founder of Malaysia’s largest luxury retailer – The Melium Group – started her own label – FARAH KHAN – which is available in 44 major cities worldwide.

Her designs focus on intricate embellishments which combine Southeast Asian beadwork and versatile fabrics. Farah’s brand of easy, effortless glamour helps women look fabulous in all types of settings.

FARAH KHAN has dressed personalities and celebrities such as Nina Dobrev and Teri Hatcher.

The award-winning fashion designer is known for her signature avant-garde and a mix of contemporary and vintage designs. You can see in Melinda’s design, there is a blend of local traditions and bohemian qualities.

Melinda’s design has three distinct fashion lines that cater to different fashion styles: Melinda Looi Couture for couture, Melinda Looi Prêt-à-Porter for evening gown and MELL for casual wear. They are sold in Malaysia as well in boutiques throughout Europe, Australia and the Middle East. Her recent addition is a line known as MELL BASICS which consists of basics made from certified Organic Cotton.
